Meet Lloyd Mensah

AI Engineer and founder of First4 AI

My Story

I'm a systems engineer and AI automation specialist who builds reliable, production-grade solutions for UK businesses—combining industrial engineering discipline with modern AI capability.

My technical foundation: safety-critical systems engineering

I hold a BEng in Electronic Engineering from UMIST, where I built my foundation in hardware, software, and systems integration. I then applied that education as a software engineer at Alstom Power Conversion, developing airfield lighting control systems in C++ on Unix. These weren't ordinary applications—they were safety-critical infrastructure where failure meant aircraft couldn't land safely. I worked across the entire industrial control stack: SCADA systems for real-time monitoring, PLC programming in ladder logic, and complex software integration for 24/7 operation with zero error tolerance.

That environment instilled engineering principles most software developers never encounter: fault tolerance, graceful degradation, comprehensive error handling, and systems thinking across hardware, software, and real-world processes. The same discipline that keeps aircraft systems running now ensures business automation works reliably under pressure.

Operational experience: I've lived the problems I solve

After engineering, I ran Jollof Pot, a catering business where I experienced firsthand what most automation consultants only theorise about—razor-thin margins, disconnected systems, manual admin chaos, and the relentless juggle of sales, operations, and customer service simultaneously.

Most businesses don't fail from lack of technology. They fail because systems don't integrate, and solutions are designed by people who've never operated under real commercial pressure. I've been in both seats.

Modern AI capability with Make.com Advanced Certification

Today I apply that engineering rigour to AI and automation. I'm Make.com Advanced Certified, building production-grade automation workflows daily. I design RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) systems, architect LLM integrations, and structure data so AI can actually use it effectively—not just cosmetically.

What I bring together:

  • Deep systems engineering: C++, Unix, SCADA, PLCs—I understand how complex systems integrate from the hardware layer upward

  • Industrial-grade reliability: Fault tolerance, error recovery, and designing systems that fail safely

  • Modern AI architecture: RAG systems, LLM integration, prompt engineering, and Advanced Certified Make.com automation

  • Real operational experience: I've run the business, managed the chaos, and felt the pain of broken workflows

  • AI governance and data privacy: The same safety-first discipline I applied to aircraft systems now protects client data and ensures responsible AI deployment

I continuously train in modern AI engineering—cloud platforms, LLM architecture, agent frameworks—so clients benefit from current best practices, not outdated approaches.

My approach: engineering-first, AI-where-appropriate

I start by understanding how your business actually operates. I identify where automation genuinely improves efficiency or reliability. I use simple rules-based workflows when they're more appropriate. I deploy AI only where it demonstrably outperforms alternatives—never for the sake of appearing cutting-edge.

I don't sell hype or promise magic. I build reliable systems for UK businesses that need to keep running—combining industrial engineering discipline with modern AI capability, informed by real operational experience.
